Now in its third year since achieving Fairtrade status, Callington will be kicking off the fortnight on Monday 22nd February with a Fairtrade Tea Party between 5pm and 5pm and raising funds for the Women to Women charity at Langmans Restaurant, Church Street.
For the more outrageous, Saturday 27th February sees The Madhatter's Tea Party coming to St Mary's Square whatever the weather at 11am. Silly hats are an optional necessity whilst Fairtrade tea, coffee or hot chocolate are an absolute must!
Local school pupils have been going head to head to design the new Callington Fairtrade logo or character and will showcase their work, and the winners announced on Fairtrade Fun Day, Friday 5th March between 2pm and 5pm in the Town Hall. Other activities include a raffle, quizzes and games and fairly traded crafts, tea and coffee will also be on sale.

After sampling some Fairtrade goodies and the opportunity to meet this year's special guest Nicholas Adjei-Gyan from Kuapa Kokoo in Ghana at Co-ops café between 11am and 12am. Callington's Fairtrade Fortnight concludes with the much anticipated "Question Time" at Callington Community College on Saturday 6th March. Guest speakers include Nicholas Adjei-Gyan. "QUESTION TIME"
On the panel of "Question Time" are all of South East Cornwall's forthcoming parliamentary candidates, including: Karen Gillard (Liberal Democrat), Stephanie McWilliam (UKIP), Sheryll Murray (Conservatives) & Michael Sparling (Labour). Guests are advised that the event runs from 2pm until 4pm. Running alongside "Question Time" is a children's African Arts and Craft Workshop in the Callington Library between 2pm and 4pm.
Jane Weatherby, founder of Callington Fairtrade said of the upcoming events: "There has been a fantastic response to Fairtrade Fortnight this year. The people of Callington are really set to make a difference." Callington Fairtrade is encouraging people in the area to hold their own Fairtrade Tea Party.
